Marc Marquez races MotoGP machine on snow and ice

As three-time MotoGP world champion, Spaniard Marc Marquez (23) does not have a lot to prove, but, it is always nice to see a racer display his bike handling skills. In this case, with his championship winning Honda RC213-V, he puts the machine to the test on the ski slopes at Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Riding a specially modified RC213-V around the Hahnenkamm Ski Festival slopes, equipped with studded snow tyres, Marquez raced up the ice and snow on the Streif ski run, making him the first person to do so on a motorcycle. Marquez had help from ice speedway racer Austrian Franz “Franky” Zorn (47), who set up Marquez’ machine with 483 spikes in the tyres.

“It was really difficult to keep the bike under control, but I’m young and it’s good fun to try some crazy things! We enjoyed it and we could see after a few runs everything that was possible,” said Marquez. The Streif at Hahnenkamm, where Marquez performed his run, sees skiers plunging down an 85% gradient, and reach speeds of over 110 km/h.
