A Motorcycle That Looks Like a Jet Plane

  • By cannonball

This fully custom bike ($32,000) borrows design inspiration from the moto and airplane worlds. The unibody construction, for example, combines the tank, cowl, seat, and brake light into one slippery Boeing-like fuselage. But it also comes with a 750cc, liquid-cooled, 57-horsepower Harley Davidson engine

The exhibition “Americans,” opening in October, previews with a 1948 Indian Chief motorcycle

  • By cannonball

The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., recently installed an iconic 1948 Indian Chief motorcycle in its majestic Potomac Atrium. On loan from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, this classic American motorcycle, with its Indian head fender ornament, will be featured in the museum’s exhibition Americans, opening in October. This exhibition explores Americans’ and American Indians’ deeply entangled history, made manifest by the imagery of American Indians all around us in our everyday lives.

Cloud Chaser: The insane BOTT XR1R Pikes Peak Racer

  • By cannonball

THE PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB is madness of the highest order. Racers blast through the 12-mile course at breakneck speed—climbing 4,720 feet and navigating 156 turns, right on the edge of disaster.

Tackling it on two wheels takes tons of skill, massive cojones and a few loose screws. And a motorcycle that can go really, really fast. Today we’re profiling one such bike: the Bottpower BOTT XR1R, which Travis Newbold recently piloted to a win in the Exhibition Powersport class.

Watchlist: The Best Motorcycle Photographers

  • By cannonball

WE’RE OFTEN ASKED what the ‘EXIF’ in Bike EXIF means. If you don’t know, it stands for ‘Exchangeable Image File format,’ referring to the data a digital camera saves when it takes a snap.

Basically we care as much about photos as we do about motorcycles. Without good photos, Bike EXIF wouldn’t be half the site it is.

C-Seven: Deus nails the vintage Triumph bobber

  • By cannonball

We owe the Australian company Deus a lot of credit for kick starting the current custom boom. When Dare Jennings and his partners opened the doors of their converted Sydney warehouse, it was all about Yamaha SR conversions and Kawasaki W650s.

These days, you’re just as likely to see a Harley Sportster or a Suzuki DR650 parked inside the cavernous store. And if you’re lucky, you might spot a vintage machine that’s been given the fastidious Deus custom treatment, like this 1969 Triumph TR6 hardtail called ‘C-Seven.’

Five Reasons ‘Why We Ride’ Motorcycles | Moto Commentary

  • By cannonball

Everyone has their own reasons to ride. Catching a high from riding is truly unique and for some, that’s exactly what it’s about – that thrill, that adrenaline, that “bombardment of the senses.”

But not all riders are out chasing the type of feeling that’s worth dying for. For majority of those who ride motorcycles, it’s much simpler than that.

This Buell is a Glimpse into the Future of Customization

  • By cannonball

CALL US ROMANTIC, but we love the idea of old-school craftsmanship. The process of starting a project on a piece of paper, and bringing it to life with English wheels and planing hammers. It’s how this beloved scene of ours was built: by hand.

But although we’re enamored by the tools of the past, we’re equally captivated by the tools of the future. And this futuristic Buell is the poster child for cutting edge techniques. Instead of being built in a dusty old shed, it was created in a modern studio with CAD software and a 3D printer.

Beyond UJM: The 9 Best Japanese Motorcycles

  • By cannonball

Though motorcycles seem like a single category of conveyance, there’s actually two worlds, two schools of thought, and two philosophies that surround the bike culture. On the one hand, there’s the American ideal of big bore beasts that are ridden by rebels. This outlook breeds a culture of leather, tattoos, biker gangs, and the counter-culture embodied boldly by films like Easy Rider. The other side is the European outlook, which is best captured by Vespa scooters zipping around the cobbled streets of Rome. In that case, it’s all about sipping gas, saving money, and cheap transportation through clogged avenues.

Pacific Motorcycle Co. XV1000 – The Bike Shed

  • By cannonball

Big twins, if you love ‘em and want a classically finned air cooled one without blowing your beans on muscle from Milwaukee the options are fairly limited. Handy then that Yamaha’s XV1000 packs a decent punch for not a lot of loot. There are plenty of donors around, plus the supply of parts is positively abundant.
