The Motorcycle Industry is Dying

  • By cannonball

Sales of motorcycles peaked in the US in 2006 at 700,000 units. They fell during the recession and never truly recovered – in 2016 just 370,000 were sold.
Bikes are popular with a dying market: baby boomers. Millennials are more likely to want an electric green car.
The industry has tried to respond by coming out with lighter and cheaper bikes equipped with new safety features aimed at first-time urban bikers.
Harley-Davidson’s new line of bikes cost around $12,000 – their marketing chief talks about them costing $6 a day, encouraging the young to sacrifice their lattes for one.

Recall: Zero Motorcycles

  • By cannonball

Zero Motorcycles is recalling a bevy of its motorcycle models because of a turn signal that may stop working, without alerting the rider, which happens to violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) #108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

The Top 15 Fastest Cruiser Motorcycles!

  • By cannonball

Since determining an accurate 0 – 60 mph speed is pretty hard, working out what bike wins the “fastest cruiser” title is a tricky business, but we’ve done our best for you right here. There’s no way that we’ve had the chance to ride every single one of these down the strip, so we’re borrowing a few facts and figures recorded from other sources and tried to work out reasonable averages to give as accurate a presentation as possible – because let’s be honest, there’s a lot of misinformation out there.

A Small-Bore Motorcycle Festival in the Smoky Mountains

  • By cannonball

The Smoky Mountain Crawl, now in its third year running, has become America’s biggest festival of fun for the small-bore set, featuring a day of displays and a day of riding mayhem. The “Crawl” was created by the owners of MNNTHBX—Greg Hatcher and Kevin Estep—two well-educated and respectable fans of Alice in Chains, who year-round manufacture and sell a healthy list of custom parts for small-bore machines. With the “Crawl,” these two have become the alerting pipers in a forest with echoes of laughter and a bustling in the hedgerow… Oh no, wait, …totally wrong rock-lyric reference with that one. Sorry.

Best Standard Motorcycle of 2017

  • By cannonball

This could’ve gone several ways and almost did. As all the world’s manufacturers scramble to fill a burgeoning need for what we used to call just plain old motorcycles, choosing just one becomes more difficult – especially since eligible new players have only recently been made available to us for testing. I liked the new 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750 very much a couple of weeks ago, also the heavily revised 797 Ducati Monster reviewed way back in March. It doesn’t help that “Standard” is such an amorphous category… last year, the new Triumph Street Twin took home the trophy.

Tag two friends, one with a good reputation and one with a bad reputation but don’t let them know which one they are. Let the fun begin! :)

MV Agusta have updated all of their three-cylinder motorcycles so they now comply with Euro4 regulations.

The F3 675, F3 800 and Dragster 800 will see modifications made to both the engine and electronics to bring the motorcycles in line with the Euro4 regulations, allowing them to be sold beyond 2018.

Engine noise has been reduced significantly by 50% and exhaust gas emissions have been reduced by 48% over the old Euro3 requirements, making the bikes quieter and cleaner.
