MotoGP: Michelin bring four options for Silverstone surface | MCN

  • By cannonball

MotoGP sole tyre manufacturer Michelin will bring four options of tyres to this weekend’s British Grand Prix instead of the usual three, as they play it safe on a new surface on which they haven’t tested yet.

Lapping for the first time on the new asphalt laid specifically for MotoGP and unable to squeeze a test into the already-crowded calendar, Michelin boss Piero Taramasso says that with the extra option he’s confident that they’re prepared for all eventualities.

Spied! Will Ducati release a revamped Hypermotard for 2019?

  • By cannonball

This spy shot sugggests Ducati will release a revamped Hypermotard for 2019, with a new engine that paves the way for a major makeover of the Italian firm’s middleweight range. As well as what looks like a new motor, there’s refreshed styling and twin silencers with underseat exhausts.

While the Hypermotard isn’t one of the UK’s biggest sellers it is very popular in Europe and this bike is evidence that Ducati will continue with it into the next phase of Euro5 regulations, due to be introduced in 2020.

Roads: Cummins completes first 134mph lap at this year’s Ulster GP | MCN

  • By cannonball

It was another seriously fast practice session at the Ulster Grand Prix, with Manxman Conor Cummins posting the first 134mph lap of the meeting to take pole in the Superbike catagory with a time of 3:18.631 ahead of Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider Dean Harrison.

Simths Racing’s Peter Hickman crossed the line in third place, despite falling foul of technical difficulties during the session.

With the sun shining over Dundrod, riders were able to take full advantage of the dry conditions, ahead of this afternoon’s opening races and wetter weather, with the vast majority of participants improving their times from Wednesday, across all classes.

Revisited: 2011 Triumph Daytona 675R | MCN

  • By cannonball

What we said then

"Triumph labelled the Daytona 675R as a track day weapon/fast road riding tool, and MCN can’t argue with that. The stiff Öhlins suspension and lithesome, agile nature of the 675R chassis gives the impression it is a sorted race bike. Couple this with an impressive midrange from the triple-cylinder engine and you have a bike that allows devastating corner speed at the track. Although, for the road the suspension as standard is bloody hard and necessitates softening off. Simple touches of a red subframe, carbon front mudguard and fairing infill panels make the 675R special and instantly recognisable." MCN, 2011.

What is it like now?

The 2011 to 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R is one of the prettiest sportsbikes ever made. The mixture of white, black and red, as well as licks of gold from the front and rear Öhlins finery is classic Triumph and you just feel special whenever you ride it.

Despite being six years old, the minimalist design of the Daytona, complete with under-seat Arrow exhaust, still looks modern and the jacked-up rear end gives it an aggressive stance, which looks quick just standing still.

Harley-Davidson will launch an all-electric motorcycle | Daily

  • By cannonball

Harley-Davidson has confirmed plans to launch its first electric motorbike next year.

The US brand, famed for its thunderous gas-guzzling choppers, has revealed the launch date of its long-anticipated electric bike, known as LiveWire.

The electric motorbike will launch in 2019 — some four years after a prototype for the vehicle was driven by Scarlett Johansson’s character Back Widow in the 2015 Marvel blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Details of the performance and price of the electric bike have yet to be released.

The announcement comes as part of a new business model for the Milwaukee-based company, which is looking to engage with a wider range of customers as demand dwindles for its iconic petrol-hungry bikes.
