More Pics And Info About KTM’s Assault On All Three MotoGP Classes
- By cannonball
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing on Monday began a new era with the presentation of the Austrian brand’s 2017 MotoGP team at the new KTM Motorsports building in Munderfing (Austria). The entry into the premier class of MotoGP racing makes KTM the first manufacturer to have a factory team contesting all three categories of the world championship.
KTM is the dominant brand in offroad motorsport and in January won its 16th consecutive Dakar Rally with British rider Sam Sunderland on the KTM 450 RALLY. Now, together with main sponsor Red Bull, the company goes in an entirely new direction in road racing to begin contesting the elite class of the MotoGP World Championship.

London Motorcycle Show 2017 preview
- By cannonball
ExCel London is once again the venue for the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show, which this year takes place from February 17-19, featuring 2017 machinery from 22 manufacturers.
Triumph will be using the show to give a UK debut to the much anticipated Street Triple 765 – a machine so new that it was only launched this week to the world’s press. Initial reports are very positive for the bike which looks set to further cement Triumph’s standing in the category it virtually invented with the original Speed Triple more than 20 years ago.

BMW Built a Flying Motorcycle Concept Based on a LEGO Kit
- By cannonball
The latest in a string of crazy concepts developed by BMW Motorrad is a flying motorcycle concept based on a LEGO kit. Before you get your hopes up and start dreaming of land speeder style races or action movie sequences, the Hover Ride Concept is completely non-functional, but people said that about hoverboards in the past, too. The fact that it doesn’t work is way less important than the story behind it. BMW partnered with LEGO to develop a 600+ piece model kit for their popular BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle. That Adventure kit included an alternate configuration that allowed you to build the bike as a flying hover bike. BMW liked the second option so much that they built a full-size version of the hover bike, which is what you’re looking at. The concept based on a LEGO model based on a real motorcycle will be traveling to Lego World and other BMW locations if you want to check it out in person.

The BMW Alpha was Designed for the Bonneville Salt Flats
- By cannonball
There are plenty of great design stories out there, but few of them involve a Mormon, a Muslim, and social media. And we promise we’re not setting up a groan worthy joke either. Mehmet Doruk Erdem is a Turkish designer and the man who designed the concept for the BMW Alpha. It’s a motorcycle explicitly designed for the Bonneville Salt Flats and taking a shot at the land speed record. For inspiration, Erdem looked to the Great White Shark. Not the first place we would have thought, but once he said it, it made a lot of sense.

Triumph Street Scrambler
- By cannonball
Triumph duke it out against BMW on the Bike Shed as the most featured manufacturer and at our shows you can’t move for triangular badges and swan-neck exhausts. That’s not just because we are quite partial to that iconic engine architecture but because so is nearly everyone else. And it’s not because we’re British either. No matter where we go, we’re never too far from a Triumph, whether that be a lovingly restored Meriden classic or tractor tyred Hinckley Bonneville. We’ve written about and exhibited so many of the things that it’s all too easy to become blasé in the presence of the endeavours of talented pro-builders and passionate amateurs. Yet, when done right, there’s not a lot to beat the simple lines of a T100. Ask a child to draw a motorbike and you’ll probably end up with a colourful squiggle resembling Dutch’s D&O Bonneville.
